“The motifs in many of my works are based on internal mythology, but at the same time, there are some references to the folklore of the Russian North, which inspires me. I am attracted by the aesthetics of the terrible and the funny, as it is impossible to live without fun, knowing that life is finite..”

Ulyana Podkorytova is an artist, who explores the problems of loss of identity in the era of globalization and post-folklore. She works in video, voice performance, sculpture, and graphics. Podkorytova graduated from Moscow State University of Printing Arts (faculty of Graphic Arts) and Moscow School of Photography and Multimedia named after A. Rodchenko (Video Art workshop). She studied extended vocal techniques in Natalia Pshenichnikova's Voice laboratory, attended Sainkho Namchylak's master classes of throat singing, Shelley Hirsch's vocal performances, and Nadezhda Mironova's folk singing classes.
For Prosjekt 67 Podkorytova will screen her resent film Tamotka. This film is a tribute to Northern Russian traditions and folklore, specially the Pomor region. The film is also a modern fairytale about the future of nature and technology. The main character of the work is dressed in a suit of armour made from wooden tiles, which were often used for church roofs in old Russian architecture. In the Pomoryian dialect, the word “tamotka” means “somewhere out there” – it points a way into a possible future, one where new technologies and inherited knowledge complement one another.

The "Pomors" is a distinguishing national name of the representatives of indigene ethnic community of the European North of Russia (the Pomor land - Pomorje). The name "Pomors" appeared approximately in 11th -12th centuries on the south-west coast of the White sea and during 14th -16th centuries spread far to the south and east from the place of its origin.  Their name is derived from the Pomorsky (literally, "maritime") coast of the White Sea (between Onega and Kem).
During the census of 2002 over 6500 people defined its nationality as pomors. Overwhelming majority of them live in Arkhangelsk oblast.
The location for this project is outside Jektefartsmuseet. OBS: The sound can only be experienced using a smart phone / headset
